Emergency in Copenhagen

The protesters are out for
blood. “The clock has
ticked down to zero. After
two years of negotiation, the time has come to deliver”,
according to the U.N climate chief Yvo de Boer.
Oops, it seems some of the
radicals are now in charge of the agenda.
For the next two weeks,
nearly 200 nation’s representatives will trade away our
freedom and money on an elusive ‘problem’ in
Copenhagen.
The contrarian in me wonders; if
they are successful in elevating ‘global warming’ to a problem
that requires billions in dollars in new taxes and regulations,
how long will it be before we must spend billions more to fight
‘global cooling’? If you
remember, that was the concern in the
1970’s.
The New York Times has the
article, “Meeting on Climate Opens With Calls for Urgent
Action.” There are
two problems for the delegates to the confab, securing
commitments to cut greenhouse gases from member Nations and
convincing wealthy nations to pay for not only their own but
everybody else’s costs. Poor nations do not think they should have
to pay anything to correct the ‘problem’, since they are not
industrialized, they could not have caused
it.
The conference opened with a
video of children plea’s for the delegates to save them from an
‘apocalypse’. After all, we all know, “We all want what is
best for the children.” The Guardian editorialized, “The politicians
in Copenhagen have the power to shape history’s judgment on
this generation: one that saw a challenge and rose to it, or
one so stupid that we saw calamity coming but did nothing to
avert it. We implore them
to make the right choice.”
Every day we get closer to a
remedy foisted on us by the ‘world improvers’.
We no longer have an
administration or congress that looks out for America’s
interests. Perhaps it
would be good to remember the words of F.A. Hayek written 65
years ago in The Road to Serfdom. “Planning unites almost all of
the single-minded idealists, all the men and women who have
devoted themselves to a single task. The hopes they place in planning,
however, are the result not of a comprehensive view of society
but rather of a very limited view and often the result of a great
exaggeration of the importance of the ends they place
foremost. This is not to underrate the great
pragmatic value of this type of men in free society like ours,
which makes them the subject of just admiration. But
it would make the very men who are most anxious to plan society
the most
dangerous if they
were allowed to do so.”
Make no mistake, the planners are
alive and well. They are
in control of the levers of power, they live among us, and they
will enslave us to their grand dream. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) is set to announce that greenhouse gases pose a danger to
human health. This will
allow the EPA to regulate carbon dioxide, completely bypassing
the congress. The only way
to stop this is for the congress to change the legislation that
empowers the EPA to regulate greenhouse gases.
Good
luck!
Thomas J. Donohue, president of
the Chamber of Commerce said that regulating greenhouse gases
“could result in a top-down command-and-control regime that
will choke off growth (in the U.S.) by adding new mandates to
virtually every major construction and renovation
project.” Command and
Control, what is not to like with that?
That is exactly what the
politicians want, people make such a mess of things when
allowed to pursue their own dreams and goals.
Again, the New York Times
has the story, “E.P.A. Sets Carbon
Crackdown.”
Free markets would cure this
‘problem’, as the price of crude oil goes higher, its use will
go down. It is simple
economics, but the world improvers don’t want to wait on the
free market to regulate the use of energy.
If the same ‘green
coalition’ that is promoting climate change would stop
blocking construction of nuclear plants, coal used in
electricity generation would go down. No my friends, the problem is the free
market does not include aid to developing nations to
limit their emissions. With 200 nation’s voting, we
lose. The U.S. is
running the largest deficits ever, has unfunded mandates
coming due, and piling up a national debt that can never
be paid back.

How would it look for Maobama to
oppose more foreign aid after winning the Nobel Peace
Prize? The dangerous part
of this wealth transfer is it would be mandated and run by the
U.N. rather than renewed yearly by our congress and
administration. We would
give away money with no strings attached, another chip at our
sovereignty.
